A Day In The Life :: Patrick Henry High School's Patriots :: Minneapolis, Minn.

On October 13, 2014, I was invited on campus to capture a day of the life of Patrick Henry High School's Patriots. Located in the Camden neighborhood of North Minneapolis, the school boasts close to 1,300 students. The story captured in this collection of images displays the diverse student body and Nationally acclaimed academic experience Patrick Henry has to offer.

Patrick Henry High School has been been ranked among the nation’s best high schools by The Washington Post, Newsweek Magazine, and U.S. News and World Report. Each publication uses different criteria for evaluating schools but every one of them placed Patrick Henry as one of the top 25 high schools in Minnesota. For many years, Patrick Henry struggled with low enrollment and poor academic performance. Since the 1990's, however, the school has benefited from refining its
academic offerings and implementing a challenging International Baccalaureate (IB) Program of international education and rigorous assessment. The IB program at Patrick Henry offers a rich and challenging experience for students, as it aims to develop inquiring, knowledgable and caring young people through intercultural understanding and respect.

Fun Fact:: One week following my visit, First Lady Michelle Obama was the main attraction at an energetic get-out-the-vote rally at Patrick Henry High School. Obama was accompanied by Sen. Al Franken and Gov. Mark Dayton. About 2,200 people crowded into Patrick Henry High, where they heard the first lady speak of the progress that’s been made over the last six years – both in the state and in the nation. But the real message Tuesday was the importance of getting out the vote.
